Nicho Workshop for Dia de Los Muertos
You will each create your own nicho, a small decorated tin shadow box with a hinged door. Nichos are traditionally bedecked with a variety of images, objects and colorful embellishments. They can also be used as small picture frames, and may be ornamental, devotional, or whimsical.
You will be using acrylic paints (puffy paint) and glue to paint and embellish your own tin nicho. Please wear old clothes or an apron; you may get paint or glue on you. If you use reading glasses, you may want to bring them. If you want to use your nicho to commemorate a person with a photo or to frame a photo of any kind, please bring the photo to class; it should measure no larger than 2 1/2 by 1 1/2 or 2 3/4 by 4 1/4 (depending on the size of nicho you choose). There will be a variety of images and items to choose from if you don’t bring a photo. All other materials to decorate the Nicho will be provided.
